Can I join in sport with friends?
There are lots of ways of becoming active and joining in sports with friends. Even contact team sports such as rugby will not increase the risk of seizures. It is always worth telling someone you trust (teacher, coach, best friend) that you have epilepsy, just in case you have a seizure.
Tips you may wish to share
- If you have seizures often, think about educating a friend or teacher on what to do if you have one.
- You may have certain “triggers” (things in the environment that can trigger a seizure). If you have a trigger, be aware of them – especially when on your own. There are lots of ways to become physically active and it is important you minimise your risk.
- If you have any uncertainties about what sports are suitable for you, then discuss this with your doctor.
